How To Pick The Perfect Cleanser

When it comes to choosing a cleanser, it seems like the options are endless. How do you know which ones are best for you? Let us help you choose the best cleanser for your skin type!

Milk, Gel, or Oil Cleanser?

Milk

  • Beneficial for normal to combination skin

  • Does not leave any sort or residue on your skin, where oil cleansers likely do

Gel

  • Beneficial for eliminating surface oil and acne causing bacteria as well as giving the skin a deeper clean

  • Best for oilier skin types

  • Gel is activated by water so be sure to add some, create a little bit of a lather and wash your face

Oil

  • Best for dry or sensitive skin

  • Tends to linger on the surface of the skin longer, in fact, some opt to double cleanse (using an oil cleanser first followed by a milky or gel cleanser) to get the benefits of using an oil cleanser without the lingering residue

How to pick the best cleanser for your unique skin:

Combination Skin

You may have combination skin if you have an oily t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), alongside dryness on the cheeks. Look for a cleanser that both balances and hydrates the skin such as a gel.

Examples: Éminence’s Stone Crop Gel Cleanser, Mangosteen Resurfacing Cleanser or Citrus Exfoliating Wash

You may have oily skin if you have large, visible pores, and a greasy sheen throughout the day, even after applying make-up. Look for cleansers that control oil and purifies the pores. Cleansers that contain charcoal are a fantastic option. Be sure that the cleanser you choose works to regulate oil production and balances pH to help slow the growth of bacteria and help prevent breakouts.

Examples: Éminence’s Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser, Éminence Acne Advanced Cleansing Foam

Dry Skin

You may have dry skin if your skin is itchy, flaky, or generally tight. Look for a cleanser that clears away grime and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. If possible, look for a cleanser that hydrates and does not contain soap in the formula.

Examples: Éminence’s Coconut Milk Cleanser, Kombucha Microbiome Foaming Cleanser or Firm Skin Cleanser

Sensitive Skin

You may have sensitive skin if your skin is often red and is prone to irritation. Look for a cleanser with dense, creamy foams and soothing ingredients such as aloe, willow bark and witch hazel. Balancing skin pH is important with sensitive skin as it can get very dry and irritated when pH is out of balance.

Examples: Éminence’s Calm Skin Cleanser, Clear Skin Cleanser or Kombucha Microbiome Foaming Cleanser

Normal Skin

You may have normal skin if your skin has an even tone with no flaking, redness or sheen. You may get an occasional breakout but it doesn’t last long. Look for a cleanser that is potent but doesn’t dry out your skin. You can use a cleanser that not only cleans your skin, but find one with bonus perks such as anti-aging, toning, and hydrating.

Examples: Monoi Exfoliating Cleanser, or Mangosteen Resurfacing Cleanser
